"Since
2000, policies and practices for validating non-formal and informal learning
have developed all over Europe, at national level as well as in sectors,
enterprises and voluntary organisations. This trend continues; in many
Member States validation procedures have acquired a permanent character in
education, training and learning systems. This tendency shows that
validation of non-formal and informal learning is increasingly being
accepted as an integrated and legitimate part of mainstream education,
training and learning policies and systems in Europe. This does not mean
that individuals can freely transfer and accumulate learning outcomes across
national and institutional borders. Learning taking place outside formal
education and training systems is still treated with scepticism by many
stakeholders. An important challenge in the years to come will be to change
the perception of learning; what matters is not where learning takes place,
but what has been learnt. This requires acceptance by all stakeholders that
there is no automatic link between learning context and learning quality;
high (and poor) quality competences may be acquired in any learning context
or setting." (Bjørnåvold, Collardyn, The learning continuity: European
inventory on validating non-formal and informal learning, National policies
and practices in validating non-formal and informal learning)

Conference
Venue
The conference
venue Bäckaskog castle in the south of Sweden has a history from a 13th
century monastery, to a Danish fortified castle and a Swedish royal summer
residence. The castle surrounded by a park, beautifully located on a narrow
isthmus between two lakes, provides an excellent environment for inspiring
work and social activities.
